MONUMENT TO LOCAL PORTUGUESE FINALLY UNVEILED

The beat of drums and the vibrant colours of folk costumes drew the attention of the hundreds of people who gathered at the Sonora Community Centre on June 14 to witness the unveiling of the Osoyoos Portuguese Commemorative Mural. BYLAW AMENDMENTS ALLOWING FOR ROADSIDE SIGN REMOVAL, TOUGHER BOAT TRAILER PARKING ENFORCEMENT GIVEN READINGS

The Town of Osoyoos is trying to take a tougher stance on unpermitted signage and boat trailer parking on the community’s roadways. At its June 15 meeting, Osoyoos town council gave first, second and third readings to proposed changes to Osoyoos’s traffic bylaw. If approved, the changes would allow the Town to remove unpermitted advertising signs from highway right of ways in Osoyoos. [...more]

Every footstep creates a small dust storm. The scents of pine, sweat and gunpowder melt together in the 30 C heat and a bear can be seen wandering in the haze a few hundred metres to the south. TOWN, DO DISCUSSING FUTURE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The first of several planned meetings between the Town of Osoyoos and Destination Osoyoos (DO) to map out the future of economic development in the area took place on May 28. CAMP DAY IN OSOYOOS BRINGS IN $3,400

Motorists waiting to pick up coffee and doughnuts in the Osoyoos Tim Hortons drive-thru line on June 3 were treated to shrieks of disbelief and joy as everyone from the commander of the Osoyoos RCMP detachment to the doughnut store’s manager to members of Osoyoos’s paramedic service splashed into the waters of the local Kiwanis Club’s dunk tank in the parking lot. The tank was just one special treat meeting people coming into the shop on Tim Hortons Camp Day, a fundraising effort to send 14,000 children across Canada to one of the chain’s six Foundation camps.
