RDOS REQUESTS TOWN EXTEND SEPTIC WASTE DEADLINE

The chief administrative officer of the Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) has asked the Town of Osoyoos to put its plans to close the Osoyoos Landfill’s septic ponds to waste from outside town boundaries on hold. In a letter dated June 30, Bill Newell requested “an extension to allow septic wastes to be received at the Osoyoos Landfill from Regional District residents beyond the September 2, 2009 deadline.” [...more]

PRICE TAG OF STRUCTURAL REVIEW FOR DESERT PARK GRANDSTANDS INCREASES BY $10,000

At its July 6 meeting, Osoyoos town council gave Town staff the go-ahead to transfer $10,000 which had been budgeted for upgrades to the Desert Park equestrian facility towards the completion of an engineering study of the park’s grandstands. OSOYOOS WOMAN FACING NEW DRUG CHARGES

An Osoyoos woman free on bail from a drug-related arrest in Osoyoos in May has once again found herself in trouble with the law. Tracy Carriere, 38, was arrested in Okanagan Falls on July 2 after allegedly trying to sell a small amount of crystal methamphetamine to an undercover member of the Penticton RCMP drug unit. NEGOTIATIONS UNDERWAY TO KEEP WILLOW BEACH DEVELOPERS INVOLVED WITH SEWER PROJECT

Roughly 130 property owners living along the northwest shore of Osoyoos Lake could be back on the hook for part of the cost of the planned Northwest Sewer Project. Georgia Laine Developments, the developers of the Willow Beach Resort slated for the head of the lake, had finalized an agreement earlier this year with the Town of Osoyoos to contribute more than $18 million towards the $23 million extension of the Town’s sewage system to the northwest shore. MORE THAN 240 TARDY AT TAX TIME

This year, 241 Osoyoos property owners didn’t pay their taxes on time. “We collected 93.24 per cent of the total taxes,” said Jim Zakall, Osoyoos’s finance director, on July 3, the day after the municipal tax deadline. That is up .17 per cent over those paid on time last year, but a .84 per cent decrease of the average calculated over the last five years. [...more]
