Let me establish right in the beginning that I have no intent to criticize any particular individual within the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS).
The RDOS staff are generally intelligent, hard-working, enthusiastic, imaginative and want to be productive and do a good job.
However, they are not doing a good job for the residents of Anarchist Mountain.
The [...] [...more]

I read with interest your editorial on requests for information from the Town of Osoyoos.
While I respect the Osoyoos Times in their responsibility as a vocal guardian of free speech and information, to express concern that the Town’s action was the start of a slippery slope, in this instance I do not agree.
I believe that the Mayor [...] [...more]

You recent editorial about a no idling in Osoyoos bylaw is right on the money almost!
This bylaw is right up there with declaring Osoyoos a Nuclear Free Zone or Drug Free Zone or any other completely unenforceable zone you care to name.
Personally I will ignore it unless I see a bylaw officer with a stopwatch [...] [...more]
OSOYOOS TIMES-February 24, 2010
Mayor Stu Wells cast an unfortunate shadow over commendable efforts by Osoyoos town council and the Town of Osoyoos to be open and transparent to the public when he complained during the Feb. 15 council meeting about Town staff spending time responding to requests for information.
For more than a year, council and [...] [...more]

A National Anthem is to be respected and revered, close to being sacred.
How dare “Nikki” (Yanofsky) sing, the orchestra provide the music and the Vancouver Olympic dignitaries allow the anthem to be obliterated and then dress it up in frills to the point of being unrecognizable.
It’s not a folk song to be gussied up.
We [...] [...more]

The Town of Osoyoos is facing a pretty big challenge with its pending anti-idling bylaw.
The bylaw is currently before the provincial Environment Ministry after receiving first, second and third readings from Osoyoos town council last month.
Under the draft policy, vehicles won’t be allowed to idle within the town’s boundaries for more than [...] [...more]

It was five years ago that I came together in the Mini Theatre with other concerned citizens discussing better ways to keep and better use this magnificent desert racing and training facility.
I remember standing up as I told my greying peers that money and how to pay for it was not the purpose, but rather [...] [...more]

After 20 years of starts and stops, tenders have finally been requested for work to begin on the Northwest Sewer Project.
While local governments have been planning this endeavour for more than two decades, some residents in the area that will be serviced by the project have been surprised to learn that they’ll [...] [...more]

As a taxpayer I wanted to applaud the protest staged by the high school students regarding the cost of the Olympics to the taxpayers, students and others of this province.
Personally I think their article showed a good grasp of the issues when discussing the plight of the homeless and how they will be treated during the games, the future [...] [...more]

I would like to respond to Laurena Weninger’s article of January 13th, 2010, “Local MP feels prorogation…”
I find the word “prorogation” to be Canada’s newest piece of current vocabulary.
Mr. Atamanenko finds this to be “dictatorial” and a “real affront to democracy.”
So I guess the question that needs to be asked: “Why have Canadian governments prorogued parliament [...] [...more]
