AMBULANCE TIME DELAY CONCERNING

Editor: Nobody died yet! Since November, 2009, BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) made a change of its policy for the ambulance service in Osoyoos. This situation was a subject presented in Osoyoos Times issues several times in the period starting at that time. The last was the report and the evaluation of the service done last month by the Director [...] [...more]

CONCERNS ABOUT CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC

Editor: I am writing to express my concerns about the unprecedented and dangerous volume of heavy equipment currently using the Willow Beach access road. You may not be aware of the fact that there is only one entrance/exit to Willow Beach. That small strip of road begins at Hwy. 97 and slopes down and back from the highway [...] [...more]

EDITORIAL - GIVING BACK TO THOSE WHO GIVE SO MUCH

OSOYOOS TIMES-May 26, 2010 Throughout the year, many local charities and community groups seek donations and support for various fundraisers. There’s always a need for cash, prizes or sponsorships for charity sports tournaments or community events focused on worthy causes. Many people may not realize that most businesses in the Osoyoos area are constantly being asked to contribute [...] [...more]

WRITER APPRECIATES RECENT OPINION PIECES

Editor: Re: Your editorials “Dog and Pony Show” and “Whose Meeting is it Really” in the April 21, 2010, and May 12, 2010, Osoyoos Times. Kudos to Laurena Weninger for her April 21 article criticizing town of Osoyoos council for the way they conduct the town meetings. PARENTS NEED TO TEACH CHILDREN RESPECT

Editor: Some $80,000 has been spent in rebuilding and resurfacing the tennis courts adjacent to the Osoyoos Secondary School grounds. The workmanship and quality of materials were excellent, and the courts were restored to a very high standard. During construction a pair of morons with their unlicensed off-road motorcycles saw fit to first tear up the bicycle track, [...] [...more]

EDITORIAL - WHOSE MEETING IS IT REALLY?

OSOYOOS TIMES-May 12, 2010 In the interest of fairness, we at the Osoyoos Times feel it is necessary to present comments given by Mayor Stu Wells at the May 3 Osoyoos town council meeting regarding an opinion piece that appeared in the April 21 issue of this newspaper. The piece, written by Times reporter Laurena Weninger, commented [...] [...more]

SURVEY NOT A VERY GOOD IDEA

Editor: I can’t believe what I just read. The Osoyoos town council plans to hire Ipsos Reid to conduct a phone survey of 300 residents to survey the public on various topics and, for this, they are willing to pay $7,400 plus GST? Could they not have printed a questionnaire, included it in the Osoyoos Times or our [...] [...more]

EDITORIAL - WHY ARE WE LETTING THE INITIATIVE PETITION CAMPAIGN GO UNCHECKED?

OSOYOOS TIMES-May 5, 2010 Election BC’s executive director of corporate planning and event management said it’s up to the people collecting signatures for the anti-HST Initiative Petition campaign to make sure that process is on the level. In other words, Anton Boegman said, the signature collection campaign across the province is “trust based” and Elections BC is [...] [...more]

SPEAKING OUT AGAINST GOV’T TAX GRAB A GOOD THING

Editor: I recently signed the anti-HST petition  in Osoyoos myself, and am personally gratified to see the response of this community and the people of this province in general to this high-handed tax-grab by this government. It is high time that the people of this province spoke up and said “enough is enough” to the politicians who continue to take more [...] [...more]

BOO TO THE HST

Editor: I can see where the HST would benefit some businesses, especially those who are in the manufacturing end of which most are in Ontario; I cannot see it helping to improve our local economy. We are already seeing a rise in overall prices due to fuel costs and more will be added once another carbon tax [...] [...more]
