Kinsmen Park is very popular for residents living on east side of town

Dear Editor:

I am wondering if our elected representatives on Town of Osoyoos council realize that Kinsmen Park was donated to the Town of Osoyoos.

This is the only playground park for children who live on the east side of the bridge.

It is well used by families, for children’s spring soccer, bocce, picnics, and most recently, people who deem it necessary to allow their dogs to run free from their leashes.

Many of these people drive here, so I have to wonder why they cannot drive to the town’s official off leash dog park up by Osoyoos Secondary School.

I have repeatedly watched dog training, people sitting and visiting while their dogs run free without a leash, while a sign, posted by the Town of Osoyoos, clearly indicates dogs must be on leash.

We have young families moving into our neighbourhood and this includes many small children.

Do the young mothers have to drive to Lion’s Park to let their children play on swings and other playground equipment?

On the west side of town, we have a water park, Lion’s Park, the Osoyoos Elementary School playground, as well as a large playing fields at Osoyoos high school.

On this side of the bridge, we only have Kinsmen Park.

Parking is a nightmare in the summer, so are the dog owners going to give up parking for not only tourists visiting Rattlesnake Canyon, but those parents with small children celebrating birthdays?

I hope you all, including Coun. Mike Campol – who will be working for Dr. Jason Bartsch and his wife as the new manager when Boston Pizza opens – take this proposal very seriously and leave things as they are? Thank you.

Valorie Paolera,

Osoyoos, B.C.

Editor’s note: Dr. Jason Bartsch and his wife Amy are the new owners of the Boston Pizza franchise that is scheduled to open in in December or January in the Watermark Beach Resort. Dr. Bartsch is the president of the Osoyoos Minor Baseball League and he appeared before town council in July asking council to consider turning the current off-leash dog park into a functional minor baseball facility, including a pitching mound and dugouts. Mr. Campol has been appointed the new manager of the Boston Pizza restaurant.
