SOMETHING IN THE WATER MAKES OSOYOOS A HOCKEY TOWN

(OSOYOOS TIMES — August 30, 2006) –

There must be something in the Osoyoos water or air or lake “ or something “ that makes for great hockey players and fans in our town.
Two developments we cover in this edition of the Times add more proof to that statement.
Osoyoos has produced a number of super-talented hockey players over the years, and now we're in the process of seeing another one rise in the ranks.
Dylan Hood, 16 years old, is impressing everyone with his on-ice leadership and amazing skills as a centre and goal-scorer.
He has just finished helping to lead the team representing Canada to the championship at the European Challenge Cup in Prague, Czech Republic “ and his coach can't say enough about how great Dylan is, and how much potential he has in higher levels of hockey in the future.
He's now trying out for both the Penticton Vees, a Junior-A team, and the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League “ and from what we hear, either team would be lucky to sign him.
We wish Dylan all the best “ and as he skates into his promising hockey future, everyone in Osoyoos is proud of him and will be watching his progress.
And this week the World Hockey Association's new Junior West Hockey League is holding its training camp in town, getting ready for the 2006-07 season.
While Osoyoos fans were sad to see the town's former Storm team leave last spring, they're gearing up to watch the new Osoyoos Spurs in the WHA, and hope it will provide entertaining hockey that gives the players and fans something to cheer about.
Local hockey fanatics will have a chance to see what the Spurs look like when the season opens at home in the Sunbowl Arena on September 22nd.
It's almost face-off time!
