PUNGENT DUMPSTER CLEANED UPrn

Editor:

In reply to the article on stinky dumpster, Aug. 20, 2008.rn
We would like to say the dumpster has been cleaned.

Talking to the dispatcher of the waste system, as far as she is concerned, the problem has been resolved.

Also, the town came over and checked out the dumpster and found it clean and odour free.

Management takes a great deal of pride in keeping the grounds and parking lot clean for our tenants as well as our surrounding neighbours.

MARIPOSA GARDENS NEIGHBOUR HAS FIRE SAFETY CONCERNS

Editor:

The proposed new phase of expansion for Mariposa Gardens should be physically seen by Osoyoos town council with what's in place now before a decision is made on expanding the building by a further 19 units.

I would like some reassurance that in the event of fire at Mariposa Gardens that adequate measures are taken to ensure our home is safe.

Much of the building had been constructed of wood.

Buy-Low, directly across from the complex, has a lot of cement that was used in its construction; Mariposa used a lot more wood in its construction.

And the Buy-Low site, in the event of fire, is accessible from all sides.

I don't know how emergency equipment, if needed, would access Mariposa Gardens as there is an orchard to the west, the Ridge Brew Pub beside it, which offers no access, and then my property to the south.

I believe that a large number of people would need help in evacuating the complex for whatever reason, if the need arises.

The wind has also increased in strength in the South Okanagan in the last few years and the Mariposa complex might change the intensity and flow of wind around it which would affect people on balconies, smokers or barbecues.

The wind in this area can increase in velocity to go around the Mariposa site.

I feel the stronger flows between the 7-11 store and the Buy-Low building site when passing between the two.

We've already had troubles with canopies blown apart by strong winds.

As well, the parking lot for the amount of people in the facility does not impress me for size.

The bowling alley parking close by has some busy days.

I would not want to see emergency equipment compromised with the developments taking place in and around Osoyoos if some disaster strikes.

Finally, doctors may be already overloaded in this town, for the number of people living here.

I believe that this is not unique in our province.

What happens if one doctor hangs up their practice?

Adding more people with the 19 units has not been researched for the rest of the site first and the expansion may mean having 200 people in Mariposa at one time.

TIRED OF BEING BULLIED BY STRATA COUNCIL

Editor:

I am a resident of Osoyoos and was born and raised here.

I love calling Osoyoos my home and am proud to be from such a wonderful community.

I have lived in a condo for the last two years; however, because I am not 55 years old, and council wants this complex to be 55 years plus, I am getting bullied!

I put a beach towel on my deck to dry, as well as cleaning my deck floor with water, which obviously dripped down below.

Although my neighbour was out of town, I received a letter slipped through my door which stated that I was in contravention of strata bylaws.

It would have been nice if someone would have come and talked to me in person, as I had never even seen the bylaws before.

I feel like I am being harassed because of my age.

This is called age discrimination or ageism.

I'm not going to move out because of my age.

Why wasn't this a problem two years ago when I moved in?

Now it's become a problem!

I'm not a trouble maker and have a respectable job with School District 53.

Parents do trust me with their children.

I have been forced to write this letter because I want all residents of Osoyoos to know that I won't tolerate being bullied from my home.

There are only a few places in town to rent and this was one of them.

It's always been rented out since it was purchased in 2000.

Yes, I am under the age of 55, so yes, I might stay up later than some of you, but it doesn't mean I am having parties every weekend or causing trouble.

Maybe you should have taken the time to get to know me better, before setting out on your bullying campaign.
