OSOYOOS'S OLDER HOTELS NEED TO SHAPE UP: VISITORrn

Editor:

As a regular visitor to Osoyoos in all seasons, I would like to express my concerns regarding some of the motels in your lovely town.

Having stayed at three or four of these motels in the past few years and paying $150 and up per night it has been noticed the 'tired' and 'threadbare' shape of some of the motels.

Below are listed the observations of both myself and friends who, also, have stayed in these motels.

-Carpeting, old, not too clean and worn thin (in a beachfront motel it would seem that tile or linoleum would be a more viable alternative to carpet from a cleanliness point of view.)

-General state of most rooms which were rented for up to a week is barely standard. Some of the motels seem to have some furniture from 20 or more years ago.

-The vacuuming of the rooms more or less were hit and miss. For example in one hotel, under the bed on the second day a plastic bottle was found which was not from our stay.

-No DVD player in room, therefore cannot rent movies to watch if desired.

-Bathrooms, old plumbing and in more than one motel an unpleasant odour emanating from the sink or bathtub.

-Beach furniture for guests in a terrible state, rusty, broken, ripped and torn.

-Outdoor carpeting on the outside stairs leading up to room, torn and dirty.

Osoyoos is a wonderful and interesting town to visit and has many attractions to offer from wineries, art, beaches, dining, etc., but unfortunately the sad state of some of the motels is giving thought to visiting elsewhere in the Okanagan.

These are some observations from myself and others regarding, as mentioned, some of the older motels in Osoyoos.

Hopefully we can look forward to some updating in the near future which would make our stay far more pleasant from both a health and aesthetic point of view.

COMMUNITY SHOULD PLAY LARGER ROLE IN WEED REMOVAL

Editor:

I am addressing the article in last month's paper telling us about the invasive weeds.

We need to make people interested in caring about these weeds in that we need an incentive to cause people to bend down and pick them out of the ground.

They are not hard to pull up but you do need gloves to do it as they are very prickly.

Then what to do with them if we do pick them?

I think that we should hold a great bonfire every so often, maybe a Saturday afternoon, where everyone can bring in their bags of these invasive weeds.

A stuffed bag could be worth something.

Like a bounty on them.

I think that in the course of a few weeks we could get them all out of our area especially if we offer a goodly sum of money for the most bags brought in.

Clubs could go together to earn monies that they need to function.

School children and dry grad could benefit and even individuals who need to make ends meet.

This is a worthy cause and it needs to be dealt with.

I hope that someone else sees this as a worthwhile adventure as I would not mind helping with it.
