MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS BEFORE VOTING

Editor:

Every small town has them and Osoyoos is no exception.

I refer to the 'would be' Movers and Shakers.

They could be called The King Makers or the Powers Behind The Throne¦.but they themselves remain anonymous.

Their names are never put forward for election nor to be perused.

These groups are simply local business people who look for a potential pliable candidate for the election ¦ someone whose ego they can stroke and whose ambition they can stoke with offers of professional help and money to run an election campaign with glossy colour brochures and a last-minute flurry of large signs before election day.

Their sole object is to finesse the election and put in office a candidate who then owes them Big Time!

We have seen it before.

I only hope that this time the electorate will stop and actually THINK and think hard about the candidates.

Look at their reputations, their past performances, their previous behaviours and their proven characters, not just the image they are now trying to project.

Make intelligent informed decisions about who you will vote for.

Sometimes we just have to vote for the lesser of several evils, so to speak, or place our hopes on a fresh unknown, but in a small town it is not very difficult to learn about the candidates.

Remember, the people you vote for will be in charge of your town for the next three years, so choose wisely.

This should not be a game of Pin The Tail On The Donkey, nor Eenie Meenie Miney Moe!!

FEDERAL CANDIDATE THANKS SUPPORTERS

Editor:

I would like to acknowledge the very generous sentiments I have received from many of the residents of B.C. Southern Interior regarding the results of the election on October 14.

While the results were not what we were anticipating, I felt that it was a positive campaign.

Many issues of importance to this riding were discussed with residents during the campaign and I look forward to working with various groups to get action on them.

In closing, I would like to express my gratitude to those who volunteered not only on my campaign, but on the other candidates' as well.

The right to vote has been hard-won, a memory we will once again celebrate on November 11, and those that get involved should be commended for their volunteerism.

CAMPBELL DOING WELL IN FACE OF ECONOMIC WOES

Editor:

Even under the current financial crisis hitting the world's economy, hope still is amongst us.

Premier Gordon Campbell is proving to us all that his government is looking out for our families, our economy, small business and industry by ensuring we will all see more hit our pockets rather than the tax collector.

Premier Campbell is showing to the world his tremendous leadership and vision for our province and providing the extra protection we value to bring us through this recession.

Unfortunately, Ms. James is proving her leadership quality by failing to offer nothing in return.

God help us if she was ever elected to control our economy.

READER CLARIFIES RIGHT-OF-WAY OWNERSHIP

Editor:

I would like to make a few corrections to the article by Karen Knelsen in the Times on 22 Oct., 2008 in respect to the Northwest Sewage Project.

The error was easy to make as some of the information is not commonly known.

You make mention that the sewer concept was probably 20 or so years ago and that may be correct in concept; however it was NOT CP Rail who left any easements for sewer as there weren't any such easements.

The old KVR Right of Way, owned by CP Ltd., was purchased in 1990 by CPALO Holdings Inc., a company incorporated by a Joint Venture of the adjacent landowners from the head of the lake to the Town boundary.

During the difficult process of approvals, appraisals and subdivision, wherein the subject lands adjacent were attached to existing holdings, the directors of CPALO recognized that once the project was completed, it would have alienated the only rational linear corridor for waste services to the northwest quadrant of the lake.

The CPALO Joint Venture at the time owning the entire Right of Way, decided to donate a linear corridor for this purpose to the RDOS.

It is a credit to the foresight of the CPALO Joint Venture that we have this corridor today that was preserved for a need finally coming to fruition.
