Storm win Keystone Cup title

Once again, the Osoyoos Storm saved its best game for last.
The Osoyoos Storm can brag that they are now the top Junior B team in Western Canada after knocking off Saskatchewan 7-2 in the Keystone Cup Final last Sunday in Medicine Hat.
This is huge, said team president Barry Dewar Monday after returning to Osoyoos.
We wanted to get as far as we could and we thought we could get to the final. I was worried about getting past Medicine Hat on Saturday with the winner going to the final. They were playing really well. We won that game 7-2 and then to win the final by the same score - it was huge.rnIt was even bigger considering the Saskatchewan team they met in the final was the same team that beat the Storm 6-2 in the opening game of the tournament.
We had a seven-minute stretch in that game where we gave the game away, said head coach Jim Liebel. But the guys came away knowing they could play with them so in a sense it was the best thing that could have happened.rnHowever, the loss also meant that if Osoyoos was going to make the final, they couldn't lose another game in the round robbin, which included two days with two games and a final fifth game on the third day. And that is exactly what they did. The Storm beat Alberta 5-2, Manitoba 7-4 and Ontario 6-2.
They didn't care who we played, said Liebel. They just played one game at a time. They knew that if they didn't play well they weren't going to win. They just went out there and did their job.
And just like the Cyclone Taylor Cup, the guys saved their best game for last.rnDewar said people might not realize just how good this team is, although the rest of the teams they played might.
Over the six games, Osoyoos outscored its opponents 34-18.
If you saw the last game they just dominated Saskatchewan, said Dewar.
For the Storm winning the Keystone Cup is the perfect end to what was has been an amazing season.
It just totally finished the year off, said Liebel. We talked about what we wanted to accomplish this year and they went out and did it. This is just a great bunch of guys who had a lot of fun together.rnDewar agreed.
We knew with Kyle Thompson and Tanner Sirkia coming back we were going to be strong and then it was just a matter of putting the final pieces together.
But these just aren't good hockey players, they are good guys.rn
