Here's Who Is Running

With the municipal election just a month away, the official list of candidates for Mayor and Council, Rural Area A Director, and School Board is now in.
Four candidates have come forward for the mayoral position:
Current Mayor John Slater, former mayor/current Councillor Tom Shields, longtime Osoyoos resident Ray Vandenberg, who served two years on council back in 1989 and 1990, and newcomer Michael Ryan, best known for founding the citizens' association Osoyoos Now, are all in the race.
Running for Osoyoos Town Council are the following:
Current Councillor Dick Flintoft is running for a third time.
First-time nominees Allan Carswell, Jim Shaw and Stu Wells have also decided to run for a seat.
Ted Cronmiller, Jean Gubby, Phil MacLeod and Sy Murseli, who all ran in the previous by-election, are back to try for a seat again, and rural Osoyoos resident Sherry Linn, who ran previously in the rural district, is also in the race.
The race for RDOS Area A Director is between two candidates: current Director Eike Scheffler and newcomer Mark Pendergraft.
Three candidates have come forward for School Board Trustee positions. Current Trustees Marieze Tarr and June Harrington are running again, and first-time nominee Brenda Dorosz has also filed nomination papers.
Current Water Councillors Tony Laranjo and Claude Moreira have been re-elected by acclamation.
Two all-candidates meetings have been scheduled, both to be moderated by Bud Alcorn.
The first is set for Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m. in the Osoyoos Secondary School Mini Theatre, and the second is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8 at 7 p.m. at the Elks Hall.
Voters will go to the polls November 19 to make their choices. Watch the Osoyoos Times next week to see the first in our series of questions to the candidates.
