Slater Back In Mayor's Seat

Posted on 23 November 2005 by admin

And the Mayor is.

It was close, but after all of the ballots were counted, Mayor John Slater was returned to the top political job in Osoyoos.
Slater beat out his closest competitor Michael Ryan by a mere 53 votes. Slater led the polls with 842 votes, while Ryan captured 789 votes.
Toms Shields was third with 404 votes, and Ray Vandenberg was a distant fourth with only 51 votes.
John Slater was very pleased with the election results.
I think Osoyoos will have a great council to lead our community, he said.
Growth and communications were the main topics this election and council will be working with the community to improve the way information gets out to the residents.
Growth is inevitable in Osoyoos but we need to make sure that we continue Smart Growth principals. I would like to thank all my supporters during this campaign; without their work the results would have been different, Slater said.
This is Slater's second term as Mayor. He beat out then-mayor Tom Shields in the 2002 election.
Slater also served many years on council.
Ryan, a founding member of Osoyoos Now, is a newcomer to Osoyoos politics.
