Storm To Get Temporary Beer Licence For Games

Cheers!
Osoyoos Storm owner Barry Dewar is likely going to get his beer licence, but on a temporary basis at first.
At a special meeting of council Monday morning, approval was granted to the Osoyoos Storm to obtain a Special Occasion Liquor Licence for the Sun Bowl Arena mezzanine. The licence would apply to two hockey games scheduled for February 17 and 18.
The issue of beer sales at the Storm games has been a major object of negotiation and frustra-tion for Dewar as he has been trying to work out the details of a renewed contract for his Junior B hockey team.
The sticking point for Dewar has been the $50 per game fee the Town of Osoyoos has considered charging Dewar to operate a beer garden.
The Town of Osoyoos' position has been that the fee was to cover additional staff expenses in serving the beer and cleaning up.
Dewar maintains that because the Town of Osoyoos took too long to advise him on the terms of a liquor licence, which was agreed to three years ago, he would not pay the fee on principle.
He added the beer licence was a 'deal-breaker' within his contract renewal negotiations. Although the contract is yet to be finalized, Dewar was pleased the town was considering approval of a special event licence.
We've been talking with Councillor Ted Cronmiller and looking into the possibility of acquiring a special events licence. The idea is to do a trial run to see if there would be additional staff time involved and also to see if the fans take to the idea, Dewar explained last week.
I want to thank Ridge Pub owner Ken Lorman and brewmaster Neil Ball for their help in getting the paperwork together, crossing all the T's and dotting the I's, Dewar added.
Cronmiller said he and Dewar are still working on the contract and the liquor licence.
In order to obtain the licence, the Osoyoos Storm Hockey Club should be required to provide evidence of their comprehensive liability insurance, with extended coverage to include Host Liquor Liability at least 48 hours prior to the first event.
