New detective & Aboriginal officer to be added, with more in future
OSOYOOS TIMES (June 14, 2006) — The Osoyoos RCMP detachment will soon add staff and officers, and it has asked for even more for the future.
Cpl. Harold Hallett said last week one full-time and one half-time clerical position have been approved, and the half-time clerk will be hired soon.
In addition, a second General Investigation officer position has been approved, and Hallett said he hopes to have it staffed by next year. This is a detective position with a focus on drug trafficking and other serious crimes.
Another position, for a First Nations officer based in Oliver, was approved last October and still needs to be filled.
We've immediately asked for an additional three constables for the Osoyoos detachment alone. We want to see three hired this year, and one additional constable each year for the next four years. That would mean a total of seven additional constables over the next four years, Hallett said.
Osoyoos detachment currently has five constables and one non-commissioned officer.
