OSOYOOS TIMES (June 28, 2006) — Bobby Hull, former NHL star and current Commissioner of the newly-revived World Hockey Association (WHA), will be in Osoyoos this weekend to help the Osoyoos Spurs kick-off its hockey campaign for the coming season, says Spurs spokesman Tom Shields.
Hull, who rose to fame in the NHL and won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1961, was the first NHL star to sign to play for the Winnipeg Jets in the WHA in 1972. His hot-shot playing earned him the nickname the Golden Jet.
Accompanying Hull will be WHA President Rick Smith and Vice-President of Operations Gary Scott. The group will be giving away Osoyoos Spurs hockey pucks, t-shirts and decals. Also hot off the manufacturer's line are 120 new Bobby Hull and Osoyoos Spurs hockey sticks.
Shields says the Golden Jet is looking forward to riding in the Cherry Fiesta parade this Saturday, meeting hockey fans, and promoting the resurgence of the World Hockey Association.
The former Denver Spurs are relocating to Osoyoos to take part in the six-team WHA Junior West League.
