(OSOYOOS TIMES — May 23, 2007) –
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officers at the Osoyoos-Oroville border crossing seized 182 pounds (83 kilograms) of ecstasy “ valued at an estimated $5.2 million “ during a border security truck examination on May18.
It is the largest and only major ecstasy seizure at that border crossing.
According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release, the drugs were concealed in the back doors of an 18-wheel truck and trailer destined for California. The truck and trailer were also seized.
An X-ray examination of the trailer led officers to discover 49 packages of ecstasy “ containing approximately 262,000 pills “ within the walls of the trailer doors.
CBP spokesman Mike Milne says there are no arrests or charges and the matter is still under investigation. Milne says a Canadian man and woman were released because there was no indication they were involved or knew the drugs were concealed in the trailer.rnThe trailer was loaded with wood to be made into wood pallets, he adds.
CBP Area Port Director Ron Arrigoni says, This significant ecstasy seizure is a result of CBP's continued vigilance at our borders. Our officers continue to make significant narcotics seizures along the U.S.-Canada border, both inbound and outbound.
