Council has granted a development permit to Eric De Boer of De Boer Properties Incorporated for a four-storey building on the site of Yore Movie Store on Osoyoos's Main Street.
The structure will be made up of three floors of residential units above a commercial space.
Because the building is within the Osoyoos downtown core and complies with the commercial/residential regulations of Osoyoos's Official Community Plan (OCP), no amendments, and therefore no readings by council, were required.
OCP regulations do require that the developer purchase three parking stalls at the cost of $10,000 each.
Councillors Ted Cronmiller and Allan Carswell said they liked the density management principles the building design employs as the development would keep growth within Osoyoos rather than spreading it into the surrounding agricultural areas.
Coun. Stu Wells said he found the design too in your face and was the only councillor to vote against the granting of the development permit.
