SONORA CENTRE CLOSED UNTIL TUESDAY SO RENOVATIONS CAUSED BY FLOODING CAN BE COMPLETED

Posted on 02 August 2012 by admin

The Sonora Community Centre will remain closed until the end of the long weekend as major renovations are being done following a serious flood several weeks ago.

“We were closed today (Thursday) and will remain closed until we re-open on Tuesday,” said Sonora Centre staff member Sarah Dynneson. “We’re closing so a lot of the renovation work needed because of the flood can be completed.”

Sunrise Restoration crews were on the job Thursday and will remain all weekend and should be able to complete all of the necessary repairs needed, she said.

The flooding was caused when a sprinkler head ruptured in the early morning hours of June 13.

A couple of meeting rooms suffered serious water damage as did some offices, but the centre stayed open for business despite the flooding.

The Osoyoos Public Library will remain open for business over the long weekend, although members of the public will have to use a side entrance.
